The Dark Knight Surprises

Written by Zen Terrelonge

The Dark Knight Rises is the final helping of the cloaked, nocturnal man bat in action and despite not being released for another long year - Warner Bros have kindly bestowed upon us a delicious teaser trailer, which has got a buzz very much alive.

Until now, everything has all been very cloak and dagger, the appointment of Anne Hathaway was made as Selina Kyle but that’s all, whether she’ll act as a love interest of Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) or whether we’ll get to see her clad in leather from the female department of Batman’s tailor as Catwoman is unknown.

What is a fact though is that one villain will be in the form of the man mountain Bane who will be played by British star of Inception, Tom Hardy.

While next to no images have been unveiled from the film in keeping with it’s hush hush status, the few that have include Bane, though again for mysteries sake, this isn’t a crystal clear full on portrait image taken in the park.

Those among you who have read the comics will be aware that Bane is a toxin-fuelled monster of a man that when taking his particular serum gains immense strength and size.

So much so, a bulldozer would have a hard time slowing him down, in fact a famous storyline was when Bane broke Batman’s back, if this is going to be among the films plot again remains to be seen.

I am really intrigued to see what the outcome of the film will be, for within director Christopher Nolan’s rebirth of Gotham City, his vision was to make it a believable world as opposed to redoing what was already done with the franchise.

This meant expelling certain characters such as Robin, The Riddler, The Penguin and Mr. Freeze.

What was done in The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger’s Joker was sheer brilliance and again with Batman Begins, seeing the journey Bruce Wayne, Prince of Gotham undertakes in order to become the Caped Crusader was perfect.

Now for Nolan to wrap up the trilogy, but continue along his yellow brick road in the same vein will be a challenge, especially with Bane’s introduction.

I’m very much looking forward to see what Bane will look like on screen and how he can be adapted to be visualized as a realistic character, the same applies to Catwoman should she show her furry behind.

On to the trailer – during the opening, a glimpse from the past films are shown along with a narration from Liam Neeson’s dulcet tones taken (n.b. taken is not a subliminal link to the Paris-set, action film  of the same name that he starred in) from his character Henri Ducard/ Ra’s al Ghul, in the first film.

Commissioner Gordon, one of the only people to ally the Bat is in hospital looking worse for wear and it would seem all hell has broken loose with the crumbling of Gotham’s skyscrapers.

But – I’m guessing, The Dark Knight in question rises from his assumed downfall with the fast camera ascent into the clouds and BOOM – The Dark Knight Rises.

As for the ending seconds of the trailer with Bane hulking towards the Bat, I hope our Knight is packing more than just banana skins in his utility belt.

WTF! Just read ur review and watched The Dark Knight Rises trailer and cant wait for it. But when it says the concluding film please tell me that’s some horrible joke! Is it the last film that Christopher Nolan will direct or we talking the last film as in Harry Potter 7 part 2 being the last ever film? Please don’t let it be the later, if so I’m gonna start some public demand to change that. Keep up the good work!

    • Hey Steve, that makes two of us! I wish it was but as it stands at present, Nolan and Bale have both said they plan on creating a trilogy and leaving it there. Bringing out the teaser was a savvy move because despite the distance of the film hitting the cinema, everyone wants more now! Bane won’t be the only villain in the film though judging from Begins and Dark Knight which both had two villains apiece. Rumours are circulating that Ra’s al Ghul will be back, also that his daughter may appear, nothing certain.. The script is meant to be incredible though, that’s always a plus. I’ll fully support that campaign! Thank you sir, I’ll take that as an order.
